I sharped my interest in the research field from the university period in the Pharmacy Faculty at the University of Bologna. During my experimental thesis in pharmacology, I developed the interest in cancer by carried out the evaluation of role of opioids in the proliferation and migration pathways in different cancer cell line by molecular evaluation of cellular responses to opioid pathway activation.
During my postgraduate education I’ve been admitted to a Ph.D. program in Translational medicine at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa (2018-2021) with a fellowship at the Italian Institute of Technology - IIT in Genoa. There, I was in the Drug Discovery and Development Department, mentored by Dr. Benedetto Grimaldi. In this period I approached the evaluation of the CD44 active targeting in cancer cell line of polymeric nanocarrier system by different microscopy and molecular techniques. Thanks the obtained results I assessed the specificity against CD44-expressing cells and and the intracellular peculiar fate of the tested nanocarriers in vitro cancer cell models.
After my PhD I joined as Research Fellow the TIGeR Laboratory at the University of Genoa where I am currently on different projects both with clinical and translational commitment: a) the evaluation of the role of a mutated protein in the resistance to endocrine treatment in a model of breast cancer cell edited by CRISPR-Cas9; b) the analysis of a microbiome profile in patients with Hospital Acquired Pneumonia by cutting-edge methodologies; c) the evaluation of the microbiome profile in patients affected non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (in collaboration with IRCSS Ospedale Policlinico San Martino - HSM).
